Now
that you have a Professional Career Plan in writing and a timeline for
implementing it, it is now time to start thinking about how you are going
to market yourself. This may seem uncomfortable to some, but if you
are not willing to market yourself, why should someone else?
You start with placing yourself in the best position to get what you want. Go to the best school you can afford, work for the best employer that your research has established. Have a copy of your career short form and your resume handy when talking to colleges or employers. It will make a difference. Develop a cover letter that explains your career goals and also restates your strengths and richness of relevant experience. This cover letter, your resume, and your short form career plan will be your tools. If you have any additional material to add to your presentation such as: major papers or projects you have prepared for college courses or work projects, save them on a floppy disk or CD. These can be tools to support your effort of marketing yourself. Assignment
