Gathering Industry Information

Exercise 2 - Electronic Media Information

.
  Electronic Media
Electronic media is very interesting because of the development of the Internet as a common source of media,  However most libraries have computerized data bases that have information on jobs and careers.  Ask for help in obtaining information from this source also.
The internet is an easy-access source for career information.  You can do some searches for different careers using this source.  There are many sources that will give you different views of career information. You can also get electronic versions of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles and the Occupational Outlook Handbook on the internet.  Another "excellent site" for electronic information is the SCC Library

Some specific job information about hospitality jobs can be found below:

Put the information collected from these various sources on the CAS 3.1 sheet you have started. This information will later be transferred to CIS 3.2 "Industry Job Information".

Career Center Research
Most colleges have a Career Center or Placement Center with helpful staff that will introduce you to electronic data bases such as the Guidance Information System (GIS).  The GIS is a computerized program with current job listings and other helpful career information.  One of the projects in this exercise it to use the GIS system or any other computerized data base and find a job description and other information about your career area.  The GIS also lists colleges that offer a degree in the area of your interest?  List this and other information on your notes.

Assignment Format
After you have competed listing the interests and the related information, write a short summary of where if any, there is some way to integrate some of your interests into your career plan.
When you have completed the summary writing you can continue with the next exercise Interviewing Industry Professionals, the section menu Chapter 3 Index, or quit at this time.
